The Background

A private client was looking for a way to showcase their developments to clients anywhere in the world. They were looking to employ the power of AR to immerse users in buildings and projects of all sizes, but their concept was rough and it wasn’t clear where to begin. They tapped our team at CXR to develop the idea and turn it into a functioning mobile application.

The Challenges

  • Plane tracking – Ensuring the buildings and floor plans were properly placed on the user’s surface was a challenge for our team of developers. For maximum realism and ease of use, everything needed to be on the right level so users could walk around and explore the models from above and inside the units without them moving or straining to figure out how best to view them.
  • Building scale – Everything from the building models to the 3D furniture and layouts needed to be just the right scale to see the full size of the project while still allowing for detail without forcing the user to move around too much.
  • Full cityscape – It would be most helpful to display buildings in the context of a typical city, so our designers and developers needed to figure out how to incorporate other shapes and structures without creating too much additional work.

Features + Process

Full models

Employing the device’s camera, 3D buildings instantly materialize in the user’s space, providing an immersive understanding of the full scale of a development.

Furnished floor plans

A tap transports users inside the building, where they can navigate a 3D floor plan and explore each room of a listing or the entire development. With custom furniture and layouts, it’s easy to add a sense of realism to any project.

Unobtrusive details

More information about the property and each room can be found in a details panel on the right side of the viewfinder, which was designed to allow the user to glean as much as possible without distracting or hiding too much of the experience.

Results

With a functioning platform and our sample project to showcase to potential clients, the client is ready to build out the use case and change the way shoppers approach real estate. For users ranging from tenants to investors, the world of real estate marketing is not only forward-thinking, but more importantly, more useful.
